Boeing 787 Dreamliner First Flight After Battery Systems Modification Aviation News 11


Last 25 March 2013, Boeing conducted a functional check flight of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner that fitted with the revised lithium-ion battery system. This is as preliminary step toward a certification for incoming days. On March 24, Boeing says the flight, was a normal Boeing production check flight intended and validating all systems. In roughly 2 hours the crew’s Boeing checked the back-up systems and cycled the landing gear and also performed electrical systems checks.

At Boeing home, in Seattle, another Boeing 787 also being prepared developing aircraft ZA005 for ground tests of the revised battery-particularly the new stainless steel enclosure and its associated venting system. There has been no notification about when specifically this happen. Though Boeing says it aims to complete both certification of flight and associated ground test.

Pending completion of certification and FAA approval for the battery system modifications. Boeing wants to immediately restart production test flights at Everett and North Charleston as well. In other time NTSB said its upcoming forum, ‘Lithium-Ion Batteries in Transportation.” and will be held April 11 or 12. NTSB is safety board that will focus on design, development and performance of the batteries. Also NTSB is related to regulatory and safety aspects of the technology.
